Suez Canal Update

  • Effective Date: December 15, 2023

  • Advisory Type: Updates

Dear Valued Customer,

Several maritime carriers have announced they are temporarily pausing or rerouting vessel traffic through the Red Sea and Suez Canal following a sequence of attacks on container vessels launched from a part of Yemen.

For carriers rerouting ships, the majority of the vessels will travel around the Cape of Good Hope which adds, on average, 14 days to transit time. Be advised this shift could put a strain on capacity globally and will lead to carriers imposing rate increases and War Risk Surcharge.

As the situation remains fluid, it’s important shippers have contingency plans in place, ensuring they have enough product on hand to allow for added transit time. Additionally, shippers should confirm their insurance is up to date. Reach out to your local C.H. Robinson representative to confirm or discuss your insurance needs.

Thank you for being a Valued Customer. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your C.H. Robinson commercial representative.

We will provide further information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

C.H. Robinson
