C.H. Robinson is seeking a Transport Officer to join our team. In this role, you will manage domestic transportation requests and selected cross-border movements within the Global Forwarding business. This role serves as the primary point of contact for transportation execution, working closely with approved third-party logistics providers (3PLs), customers, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant transportation solutions.
The position focuses on transportation management, shipment visibility, vendor coordination, billing accuracy, and operational excellence rather than direct freight execution activities. The successful candidate will ensure transportation requests are fulfilled according to customer requirements, internal procedures, and regulatory guidelines while maintaining high service levels.
The duties and responsibilities of this position consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintain Operational Excellence:
Coordinate and manage domestic transportation requests from receipt through final delivery.
Plan and oversee Full Truck Load (FTL) transportation movements across domestic networks.
Coordinate selected cross-border transportation movements in accordance with customer requirements and operational procedures.
Work closely with approved 3PL service providers to arrange transportation services and monitor shipment execution.
Ensure transportation requests are handled efficiently while meeting agreed service levels and customer expectations.
Track and monitor shipment progress, proactively identifying and resolving transportation issues.
Maintain accurate shipment records, operational data, and transportation milestones within company systems.
Ensure all transportation documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with customer and regulatory requirements.
Understand and manage documentation requirements associated with bonded transportation movements.
Review transportation costs and validate operational charges to support accurate customer billing and vendor payment processes.
Support process improvements to enhance service quality, transportation efficiency, and operational productivity.
Facilitate Relationships
Build strong working relationships with customers, transportation providers, and internal stakeholders.
Serve as a key contact for transportation-related inquiries and shipment status updates.
Communicate proactively regarding shipment exceptions, delays, and resolution plans.
Collaborate with Air Freight Operations, Account Management, Sales, and other functional teams to ensure seamless customer service.
Monitor transportation performance and escalate service issues when necessary.
Support transportation providers in understanding customer requirements and service expectations.
Financial & Billing Responsibilities
Review transportation charges and supporting documentation for accuracy.
Coordinate with internal finance and operations teams to ensure timely and accurate billing.
Resolve billing discrepancies with transportation providers and stakeholders.
Maintain accurate cost and revenue information within operational systems.
Support profitability objectives through effective cost management and operational compliance.
Other Activities
Ensure customer SOPs and transportation processes are maintained and followed.
Support reporting activities related to transportation performance and service metrics.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Participate in training and knowledge-sharing activities within the department.
Perform other duties as assigned according to business requirements
High school diploma or GED
Minimum 3 years of experience in Domestic Transportation, Surface Transportation, Freight Forwarding, Logistics, or Supply Chain Operations.
Experience coordinating Full Truck Load (FTL) transportation movements.
Knowledge of transportation documentation and shipment coordination processes.
Experience working with transportation vendors, carriers, or 3PL service providers.
Working knowledge of transportation billing and cost validation processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Fluent in English (written and verbal)
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Business, or a related field.
Experience within Global Forwarding environments.
Knowledge of domestic transportation regulations and cross-border transportation processes.
Understanding of bonded movement documentation and transportation compliance requirements.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational accuracy.
Experience working with transportation management systems and shipment visibility tools.
