On August 18, 2026, the White House issued a proclamation that temporarily suspends the implementation of previously announced 50% Section 338 additional duties on certain imports from Canada. These duties are related to ongoing U.S. – Canada trade disputes involving alcoholic beverages, dairy products, and motor vehicles. The suspension delays the effective date of the duties from August 19, 2026, to August 22, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. ET.

In the proclamation, the Administration stated that the delay is intended to allow additional time for negotiations. As of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the tariffs have not been cancelled; they have been delayed.
