Hurricane Debby to Bring Historic Rainfall to U.S. Southeast

  • Rows: August 05, 2024
  • Affected Regions: North America
  • Advisory Type: Weather

Dear Valued Customer,

Hurricane Debby made landfall Monday morning on the Gulf Coast of Florida. While the storm is expected to weaken as it moves across Florida, potentially historic rainfall amounts are forecast for portions of Georgia and South Carolina. We anticipate possible capacity supply constraints in and around the impacted areas as the storm moves inland and are keeping an eye on emergency response needs as power outages and major flooding are possible. The latest impacts are below, but please reach out to your C.H. Robinson team directly for up-to-the-minute updates.

Truckload

Road closures and power outages are expected to have some impact on available capacity during the storm and in the immediate aftermath. Coastal regions of Georgia and South Carolina, including Charleston, could see major flood impacts through Saturday morning. Your C.H. Robinson team is here to support you with planning, alternative solutions, and tracking your freight.

Less than truckload (LTL)

Expect that some LTL terminals in the area could see limited operations and possible closures depending on flooding and power outages. Shipment delays can be expected for any shipment into or out of northern Florida, coastal regions of Georgia and South Carolina, and northeast North Carolina through much of this week.

Intermodal

Some delays are possible in areas of major flooding if railways are forced to close rail lines.

Ocean

The Ports of JacksonvilleCharleston, and Savannah are all currently open, but in the forecasted path of the storm. We continue to monitor its path for any impacts to normal operations. Expect that the potential major flooding through the week could also cause delays within those ports. Your C.H. Robinson team will continue to monitor for up-to-the-minute operational updates.
