Chicago, IL, June 7, 2011— TMC, a division of C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., along with Chicago Bears tight end Greg Olsen will host the 8th annual Kicks for a Cure kickball tournament at Chicago's Grant Park on July 9, 2011.
The event, which has been recognized as the largest charity kickball tournament in the world, raises money to support Receptions For Research: The Greg Olsen Foundation. Established in 2009, Receptions For Research believes everyone deserves a second chance at life and is dedicated to providing hospitals, doctors, and researchers the necessary resources to save those affected with various types of cancers.
"This is a fun way for people to get involved in helping cure a terrible disease. We are excited to host what we think is one of the premier events in Chicago and look forward to having a great time with everyone," said Jason Chamberlain, general manager at TMC.
Since its inception, Kicks for a Cure has raised over $750,000 for charitable causes. "We always said that if we were in a position to give back, we would. This is our way of doing that," says Olsen.
The inspiration for Receptions for Research is Olsen's mother, Sue, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. Remembering the harsh effects his mother endured, Olsen wanted to make a difference in not only his mother's life, but in the lives of families who are affected by cancer diagnosis every day.
"My mother's diagnosis was a shock to our family. We watched her tackle cancer head-on while still raising a family and attending our extracurricular activities. I am happy to say that through perseverance and exceptional care she was able to overcome breast cancer. Our goal is for everyone to come out a survivor, just like my mom," said Olsen.
Kicks for a Cure will have three divisions of competition to allow players of all skill levels the opportunity to participate.
"Our goal is to recruit 60 teams for our tournament," said executive director of The Greg Olsen Foundation, Chris Olsen. "Each team is guaranteed to play at least three games and will receive food and drinks throughout the tournament. Greg will be out there with a team, so a few lucky participants will have a shot at playing against him."
Registration for the Kicks for a Cure tournament is open to the public. Addition opportunities exist to participate in the event range from sponsorship, donation of products or money and volunteering. As well, spectators can purchase a day pass which includes food and beverages in addition to access to the event.
