Principal Container Platform Engineer

C.H Robinson is seeking a skilled Kubernetes Principal Container Platforms Engineer to lead the design and implementation of on-premises and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) solutions. This role will be pivotal in shaping our containerization strategy, ensuring robust, scalable, and secure Kubernetes environments. The Principal Container Platform Engineer will be responsible to help lead and set technical direction for a global team supporting C.H. Robinson’s Kubernetes environment. This position will be the primary technical resource for the Kubernetes Platform team supporting the infrastructure platforms both on-premises and in the cloud.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and implementation of Kubernetes solutions for both on-premises and AKS environments.
  • Develop and maintain architectural standards and best practices for Kubernetes deployments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute the containerization strategy.
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of Kubernetes clusters.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and escalation point to the Kubernetes Platform Operations team.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation within the Kubernetes ecosystem.
  • Automate repetitive tasks to reduce time and human error.
  • Oversee the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of Kubernetes clusters.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our solutions remain cutting-edge.
  • Document architectural designs, processes, and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  •  8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years focused on Kubernetes architecture and implementation.
  • Proven experience with on-premises and cloud-based Kubernetes solutions, particularly AKS and SUSE Rancher.
  • Strong understanding of containerization technologies and orchestration tools.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Argo CD.
  • Experience investigating and implementing emerging cloud native tools.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for Kubernetes environments (HashiCorp Vault).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced certifications in Kubernetes and cloud technologies.
  • Experience with routing and load-balancing technologies, including service mesh (Nginx, AKO, KongHQ Service Mesh).
  • Experience in a leadership or mentorship role.

Compensation Range

$118,000.00 - $196,400.00
