Dear Valued Customer,

On November 1, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced in the Federal Register the requirement for licensed customs brokers to maintain 20 continuing education (CE) credit hours during the current triennial period beginning January 1, 2025, through January 31, 2027. Each triennial period going forward licensed customs brokers are required to maintain 36 CE credit hours to maintain their customs broker’s license. This is the implementation of the final rule issued June 23, 2023. A variety of CE credit-eligible activities will be offered by CBP, partner government agencies, and private entities.

CBP’s goal is “to ensure all CBP licensed brokers remain up to date on evolving customs rules and relevant U.S. trade laws to facilitate compliant trade in the modern environment, while acting as an additional layer of security against illegal trade from entering the U.S. commerce.”

All licensed customs brokers will be required to maintain records of their CE credit hours. CBP has recently updated their webpage with additional information and frequently asked questions on continuing education.
