Eden Prairie, MN (August 2, 2012) — C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., one of the world's largest logistics companies, has been presented with the Human Rights Award from the City of Eden Prairie, MN Human Rights and Diversity Commission.

Each year, the Eden Prairie Human Rights and Diversity Commission honors Eden Prairie community members who have made significant contributions to the city in the areas of human rights and diversity. Nominations are accepted for individuals, non profit organizations, and businesses.

C.H. Robinson was nominated by People Reaching Out to Other People (PROP), a local nonprofit, multi-service organization, for providing over 1,100 pounds of fresh produce donations through the C.H. Robinson Community Giving Garden.

"The idea for the community garden came from our employees, who wanted to use their talents and our experience in the produce industry to give our neighbors easier access to fresh fruits and vegetables. We are humbled that PROP would nominate us for this award and very proud of our employees," said Angie Freeman, vice president of public affairs at C.H. Robinson.

The C.H. Robinson Community Giving Garden broke ground in 2011. Since then, over 130 employees have teamed up and are responsible for planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting their plots throughout the growing season. Over a dozen types of vegetables are grown in the garden.

The mission of PROP is to compassionately provide its neighbors in need with food and financial assistance, and to provide support toward self-sufficiency. PROP operates a food shelf, provides emergency services, and offers short-term case management to qualified participants.

"The fresh garden items will bring such joy to our clients who do their best to provide a healthy and nutritious diet for their families on very limited budgets," said Anne Harnack, executive director of PROP. "C.H. Robinson's Community Giving Garden is an innovative approach to meeting the hunger needs of the 4,000 individuals, of which 50 percent are children, which PROP serves."

The goal of the Human Rights Award is to recognize an Eden Prairie individual, non profit organization, business, or youth who has worked to create an inclusive community spirit through actions, activities, or programs. Award recipients are selected by the Human Rights and Diversity Commission based on the practices and programs of the business that have directly benefited the community of Eden Prairie, and that have produced and support an inclusive workplace environment.
