TMC Connect provides transportation professionals with forum for benchmarking, networking, and best practices

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, February 10 – Price pressures, lean inventories, globalization and rapidly changing technology make transportation a complex discipline. But a new social media site, TMC Connect, is providing a rapidly growing community of transportation professionals with an unexpected, but vital source for information, ideas, and answers.

TMC, a division of C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc. that provides supply chain expertise and TMS technology, launched TMC Connect in December 2009. TMC is the first in the marketplace to offer a social media site specifically for supply chain clients to interact. Since then, supply chain executives and transportation professionals within their customer community have become members of the secured site.

Jordan Kass, executive director of TMC, said TMC Connect is focused on helping shippers with the challenges that matter most to them — such as sustained cost savings, improving on-time performance, and reducing carbon emissions. "Our clients have always asked us about best practices with other shippers and they've always wanted insight into emerging technologies, legislative issues, and optimization practices," Kass said. "This site gives them a secure, and yet easy way to access to all of that information from our client and staff experts around the world.

TMC clients, senior level supply chain professionals or transportation executives, and a number of industry experts contribute regularly to content and participate in discussions on topics that matter most to them. Much of TMC's contribution to the site is a compilation of best practices and lessons learned over the past 10+ years. TMC's Managed TMS solution, a concept introduced to the global marketplace in the late 1990's, includes TMS technology, and it also incorporates the expertise of process engineers and dedicated power-users, who frequently work on-site with their clients.

Wayne Tessin, manager, North America Transportation of Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. said, "TMC Connect is a terrific idea that will enable Ocean Spray and other TMC clients to exchange ideas, share best practices and expand network contacts with transportation and supply chain professionals working in diverse industries. Tapping into the speed and global reach of the Internet through TMC Connect has great potential."

"I'm looking forward to having this tool at my fingertips, not just to help solve daily challenges, but also to stay informed about industry trends, new strategies and other topics of interest. I applaud TMC for their initiative in developing TMC Connect and look forward to continued success," Tessin continued.

Kass said. "TMC Connect works much more like a think tank where shippers can join focus groups discussing topics such as sustainability or fuel management. The difference is it's not a one time event — it is year round, real time, and through our cloud computing model our clients can participate from anywhere in the world."

TMC Connect was launched as a part of a larger website, http://www.mytmc.com/ that provides members access to their TMS technology, business intelligences tools, and resources such as industry blogs, academic research, white papers and information about new technology releases.
