MINNEAPOLIS, MN, February 8 – After 37 years in the transportation industry, Jim Larsen, vice president, retired on January 31, 2010 from C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. (C.H. Robinson), one of the world's largest third party logistics (3PL) providers of transportation and supply chain services.
Larsen began his career as a traffic manager for ADC Telecommunications in 1972 and later founded Preferred Translocation Systems (PTS), a non-asset-based third party logistics firm that specialized in less-than-truckload (LTL). Larsen was serving as vice president of PTS when it was acquired by C.H. Robinson in July 1998. C.H. Robinson named Larsen a vice president in 1999 where he spent 12 years with the company.
Larsen played an instrumental role within C.H. Robinson and contributed greatly to the company's success. John Wiehoff, C.H. Robinson CEO and president, said, "I want to thank Jim for his terrific contribution over the years to C.H. Robinson and the transportation industry. Jim's hard work and dedication greatly impacted Robinson's success. Since the acquisition of PTS and through Jim's leadership and insight, our LTL business has grown significantly. He leaves behind a strong team with a solid foundation."
Larsen will remain as a consultant to the Company for an indefinite period. "I have created many great memories at C.H. Robinson and will miss the people and business greatly," Larsen said. "I'm looking forward to the next stage in my life and spending more time with my family and pursuing new hobbies." Larsen currently resides in Chetek, Wis., with his wife, Terrie Larsen. He serves on the board of directors for Chetek Food Shelf and Rice Lake Area Health Foundation and spends his free time pursuing his life-long interest of aviation and time with his grandchildren.
