Anecdotal evidence and some qualitative research suggests that "favored shippers"—companies for which carriers prefer to haul freight—obtain better pricing and service. TMC, a division of C.H. Robinson, in partnership with Iowa State University, conducted research to determine if shipper status with carriers affects the price that the shipper pays.

Being a favored shipper typically results in more competitive rates and more reliable service. But, what elements affect if you are considered a “favored shipper” or not? Here are a few:

  • Dwell time/asset utilization
  • Contract terms and liability
  • Positive driver experience

The study discovered what attributes favored shippers possess and concluded that there is a strong link between transportation rates and paid versus dwell time. Download this paper today to learn how much dwell time might be costing you.
