An Australia-based engineering client contracted us to assist in review of various fabrication locations within China. Our role included performing detailed route surveys to determine maximum shipping parameters from the factory to port of exit, identifying obstructions and assessing relevant risk factors. Our project manager, in conjunction with the client and Chinese agent, identified a suitable route from the preferred fabricator, utilizing barge transport from the factory to ports of exit in Jiangyin and Shanghai. Shipping frames were designed to protect the delicate filtration ducting, and were manufactured to the specifications of the maximum shipping envelope. The client asked our project specialists to advise on the requirements for tie-down and lift points on all modules to facilitate safe and efficient handling. The team completed two full ocean charters during the project to meet the construction schedule for the power plant in Australia. Due to timing, we coordinated loading the first shipment to barges, transporting to the nearby Jiangyin terminal on the Yangtze River, and then direct loading to vessel. The team barged the second lot of cargo direct to Shanghai terminal as it was built and marshaled at place of rest in terminal until all cargo arrived. Both vessel loadings required full marine surveys. Our staff was onsite for the duration of the vessel loading in China. Our Calgary office coordinated the project with support from the local Chinese agent. The team overcame key challenges of handling barge supply and availability to meet the changing loading dates from the Chinese factory, as there was no storage space at that facility. The cargo arrived on schedule and budget.
