We have a strong track record in time sensitive deliveries of urgent cargo via air charters, including AN124 and IL76. In this case, a U.S.-based client needed to upgrade the compression stations of a natural gas pipeline. The initial contract was based on an ocean freight solution. But because of production delays for the engine in Germany—and to prevent significant construction delays, liquidated damages to the client and revenue impacts to the pipeline due to reduced volumes—we developed an air charter solution to expedite delivery to the site. Our project specialists worked closely with the Antonov loadmaster to proactively agree on tie-down requirements for the engines when loaded on the aircraft and the acceptable load factor for each flight. We received approval for 2 engines plus spare parts per flight, with a total of 3 x AN124 charters required. The German supplier then modified the tie-down locations on each engine to meet the loadmaster's approved method. We worked closely with the German agent to coordinate pickup of all cargo from supplier door for each flight and delivery to the Berlin airport for loading. Each AN124 aircraft landed in Dallas, where our experts coordinated final delivery to the job site. Our Houston office project personnel supervised each AN124 loading in Germany and discharging in Texas. Total transport was completed on schedule and budget.
