In early June, C.H. Robinson employees, friends, and families participated in the annual MS150 charity bike tour. This was our company’s eighth year participating in the MS150—a two day ride from Duluth, MN, to the Minneapolis area, spanning 150 miles. Money raised during the tour goes to the Upper Midwest Chapter of the MS Society which helps families coping with the disease.
Weather conditions made this year especially challenging. Riders endured 90 degree temperatures and headwinds up to 30 mph. In these atypical conditions, even the most avid cyclists struggled to complete the ride. But it was all worthwhile in the end. This year’s event was very successful for the MS Society: 4,000 riders raised $3 million, which was even more than expected.
C.H. Robinson’s involvement in the event started in 2004. Our first team of 12 employees raised a few thousand dollars. Humble beginnings, but we knew right away that this was an event that was perfect for our people. The challenge, the logistics, and the social events were right up our alley!
Over the years word spread fast. Once you do the ride and see how much fun it is, you’re hooked. Word of mouth has been our best recruiting tool. We have expanded the riding team to include our employees, as well as friends, family, customers, suppliers, and carriers. To date, C.H. Robinson has had over 550 riders participate, and we have become the title sponsor. We are very proud of the success this has become, and we appreciate the relationship we have developed with other teams and the MS Society.
The 2013 ride is scheduled for June 7-9. Do you want to become involved? You can register to ride, volunteer at the event, or donate to a rider or team. Whichever way you choose, you’ll be welcome as a participant in helping find a cure for MS.
