Get help with CTPAT certification

There are several requirements to become CTPAT certified. C.H. Robinson offers the following services to help your company navigate the process to achieve and maintain certification. Business partner evaluation

C.H. Robinson will evaluate your company’s nominated business partners. Any companies that have not provided proof of participation in CTPAT or a mutually recognized foreign security initiative will complete a tailored C.H. Robinson CTPAT Evaluation Questionnaire and, where necessary, a corrective action request.

Policy and procedure review

C.H. Robinson consultants will review copies of your policies, procedures, and other documentation from your security program to confirm they are current and adhere to CTPAT standards. If your procedures do not meet CTPAT requirements, C.H. Robinson will help develop or update them, as necessary.

Risk assessment

Detailed assessments evaluate risks that addresses external threats against your company’s supply chain security procedures—terrorism, smuggling, organized crime, and other factors—and how your company and/or foreign suppliers will respond to these types of challenges.

Security Profile support

If your company is new to the CTPAT program, we can help develop your Security Profile to CBP’s requirements. If you already participate in the program, trust our experts to review your Security Profile for continuous improvement updates.

Validation meeting preparation and support

Validation meetings with CBP require ample preparation, both by company personnel and through evidence of implementation of your program. C.H. Robinson can help your U.S. and/or foreign locations feel confident about upcoming validation meeting(s).

CTPAT training

Ensure your company personnel are fully aware of their responsibilities for compliance with CTPAT procedures. C.H. Robinson can develop customized training materials and conduct educational sessions for relevant departments.

Q: What is required to become CTPAT certified?

To become CTPAT certified, you must:

  • Meet Minimum Security Criteria (MSC) for your specific business type
  • Perform documented risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities
  • Document formal procedures to achieve and monitor CTPAT security standards
  • Communicate this information to CBP as part of your Security Profile
 

Q: What are the ongoing expectations of certified CTPAT members?

Once CTPAT certified, you must:

  • Within 1 year of certification: Host CBP validation meeting to confirm all practices and procedures are implemented
  • Annually: Update Security Profile
  • Every 3–5 years: Host CBP revalidation meetings to confirm all practices and procedures remain in place

Q: What are the differences in CTPAT tiers?

There are three participation tiers in the CTPAT program. All participants will fall into one tier based on how far they are in the process:

  • Tier 1: CBP approves certification into the CTPAT program.
  • Tier 2: Participant successfully completed validation meeting process.
  • Tier 3: Participant exceeds requirements and demonstrates best business practices.
