Employee Volunteerism

Two employees, one mission, and millions raised for cancer

For the past eight years, employees Paul "MO" Moline and Jim Round have seen their annual charity event, MO and Jim's Golf Classic, grow from a grassroots effort to raising more than $2.5 million for the American Cancer Society®. The event honors Jim's late father and MO's parents who have both lived through cancer. MO and Jim's Golf Classic continues to be one of the most popular charity events at C.H. Robinson.

MO & Jim's Golf

Let's talk to the men behind this great event:

What led you to plan MO & Jim's Golf Classic?

MO: Both Jim and I have been directly affected by cancer. Jim's father passed away from lung cancer, and both my parents are in remission from bone, colon, and prostate cancer. When Jim's father was diagnosed, we wanted to do something good rather than complain about the challenges.

How has the event grown over the past eight years?

Jim: At first, we had just a few friends and colleagues participating, but we were committed to growing the event to what it is today. Over the past eight years, we've raised more than $2.5 million for cancer research.

Any memorable stories from a particular event?

Jim: At our 2006 event, we had a sponsor who sold motorcycles and had a bunch of them on display. These were not just any motorcycles—they were custom-made and very expensive. Leave it to MO to purchase one of these motorcycles, test drive it in the parking lot, and take pictures with everyone around. What most people don't know is that MO never brought the motorcycle home and made quite the investment that year just to be the center of attention.

Why is it important for you to work for a company that gives back?

Resource Center

MO: I am so fortunate to work for a company that puts people first. When I take a step back from today's challenging environment, I realize how truly lucky I am, and I feel a sense of responsibility to give back.

What does this event mean to you personally?

MO: This event allows us to do more than just talk about finding a cure for cancer. I take pride in the fact that Jim and I put so much into the event and that so many other C.H. Robinson employees help us pull it off each year. We are so lucky to have the C.H. Robinson team behind us and supporting this event.
