The LaForgia-Redington Golf Classic
Office: Philadelphia, PA
Recipients: The Fox Chase Cancer Center® and the children of former employees Joe LaForgia and Frank Redington
Synopsis: Golf tournament in memory of two C.H. Robinson employees
- Brian Heagan"Once I got involved, I saw what kind of company C.H. Robinson really is. They go out of their way to help others."
- Phil Janisse"I'm amazed at how much people want to give. C.H. Robinson is a gigantic family, and everyone wants to help."
Frank Redington and Joe LaForgia had a lot in common—they were college roommates, best friends, coworkers, and both had a passion for giving back to their community. After Joe passed away unexpectedly in July 2006, Frank honored his friend and colleague by renaming the Philadelphia office's upcoming charity golf tournament The LaForgia Classic. Frank, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2003, chose the Fox Chase Cancer Center as the primary recipient, which was where Frank, Joe's mother, and members of both their families had all undergone treatment. With renewed vigor, Frank and fellow employees Jon Fein, Brian Heagen, and Phil Janisse worked together to grow the event's popularity and attendance. They invited more employees to participate and began recruiting sponsorships and donations from employees, customers, contract carriers, and local businesses. As a result, the event has raised more than $25,000 over the past three years for the Fox Chase Cancer Center. And although Frank lost his battle with lung cancer in March 2008, his legacy is being carried on by Jon, Brian, and Phil, who held the 4th Annual LaForgia-Redington Classic on June 6, 2009. "I made a promise to Frank that I would look after his kids," said Jon, who explained that separate funds are raised each year to benefit Frank and Joe's children. Over $6,000 was given to each family last year. "Their families come to the tournament every year, and I know without a doubt that Frank and Joe would have done the same thing for us. It's a privilege to work for such an amazing company. We have the opportunity to help people within our company and our communities."

Kickball Tournament
Office: Chicago TMC
Recipient: Team Kid Care®, a Chicago-based charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with serious medical conditions and their families
Synopsis: An annual kickball tournament that spans across all 15 fields on the lakefront of Chicago's Grant Park
- Jason Chamberlain"I value a company that gives back like they say they do."
- Andrea Poitrast"It's great knowing that C.H. Robinson's values align with my personal values. I've volunteered for Team Kid Care and seen how we've played an integral role in helping these families."
C.H. Robinson's employees work together every day to achieve the best possible results for their customers and contract carriers. That's why employees Jason Chamberlain and Andrea Poitrast knew they could transfer that same dedication to one of their favorite local charities and make a positive impact on their community. They decided to stir up some friendly competition by co-hosting a round-robin kickball tournament with Team Kid Care. The event takes place every summer in downtown Chicago along the Grant Park lakefront and brings over 1,200 people to the park. Over the past five years, the event has raised a total of $650,000 for Team Kid Care. "We simply would not have achieved this success without the constant support of our fellow C.H. Robinson employees, our sponsors, and every single person that plays on one of the 60 kickball teams," said Jason. "The event is always a blast, and 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to Team Kid Care. It's great to know we are making a difference year after year."
